The Importance of Jalisco

Tequila doesn’t just come from Mexico — it comes from the state of Jalisco. And for Point Blank Tequila, Jalisco is more than a place. It’s a promise, a passion.

Our story begins in the Highlands of Jalisco — the resilient, sun-drenched region of San Juanito de Escobedo, where volcanic soil feeds the roots of organic blue agave and tradition runs deeper than the roots themselves.

This isn’t just geography. It’s legacy. It’s lifeblood. It’s the only place on earth that could give rise to a tequila as bold, pure, and purposeful as Point Blank.

Jalisco: The Birthplace of Tequila

Tequila has one true origin: Jalisco. Protected by Denomination of Origin status, only agave spirits made within this state  — and a handful of municipalities in neighboring states — can rightfully bear the name “tequila.”  This legal protection is similar to the sparkling wine from the Champagne region in France that can only be called “champagne.”

For tequila, the Mexican government — supported by international agreements —  has declared that only blue agave spirits produced in Jalisco (plus select areas of Nayarit, Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Tamaulipas) qualify. In other words, if it’s not from these lands, it’s not tequila.

But within that distinction lies a world of difference. The Highlands of Jalisco, where Point Blank is born, are recognized for producing agave with sweeter, more nuanced flavor profiles due to the region’s rich volcanic soil, higher elevation, and cooler temperatures. These conditions stress the plant in all the right ways, drawing out character, complexity, and soul.

It’s here, in these Highlands, that our journey begins. A place where centuries of craftsmanship meet modern precision. A land where nature’s rhythm sets the pace — and only those willing to respect it can truly thrive.

The Spirit of San Juanito de Escobedo, Jalisco

Tucked in the northwest corridor of Jalisco, far from the tequila tour buses and commercial bottling lines, lies San Juanito de Escobedo — a quiet town with volcanic bones and a working heart.

This is the cradle of Point Blank Tequila — a rugged, unpolished gem in the Los Altos de Jalisco region, known as the Highlands. Perched at over 5,000 feet above sea level, this high-altitude town is surrounded by undulating fields of blue Weber agave — blades like sun-bleached swords standing guard over the land. The volcanic soil here is iron-rich, porous, and fiercely fertile, giving rise to agave with intense sugar content and a depth of flavor that’s impossible to replicate elsewhere.

San Juanito de Escobedo isn’t a place of pretense or show. It’s a working town, where generations rise early and work with their hands. Most of the families here are tied to the land and tequila trade — farmers, jimadores, distillers, and coopers — people whose livelihoods are woven into the agave lifecycle. Fathers pass down the skill of the coa to their sons. Mothers oversee fermentation tanks and bottling lines.

To live here is to know the rhythm of the fields, the scent of roasting piñas, the pride of seeing a bottle born from your own harvest. For many, tequila isn’t a job. It’s an identity.

These people are the quiet stewards of Mexico’s most iconic spirit. And that’s why Point Blank calls this place home. Because you can’t fake origin. You can’t rush legacy. And you can’t build something real without being rooted in the truth. At Point Blank, that’s exactly what we bottle.

Honoring Jalisco’s Land and Legacy

At Point Blank, the importance of Jalisco is not just celebrated — it’s protected. Our distillery, Destiladora Agave Azul, is nestled in the heart of San Juanito de Escobedo, a rural enclave where heritage is passed down like a family heirloom. Led by Don Jose Garcia and his sons, this family-run operation oversees everything — from cultivating mountain-grown agave to bottling the final spirit. It’s more than a distillery. It’s a living tradition.

Each plant is harvested by skilled jimadores at peak maturity. Each piña is slow-cooked in traditional ovens to preserve its natural flavor. And every drop that leaves its gates is a tribute to the land, the people, and the uncompromising pursuit of truth.

And at Point Blank, we don’t just take from the land — we give back. That’s how we honor the importance of Jalisco. It is our origin and our obligation. From organic agave cultivation and hand harvesting to composting piña waste and using eco-conscious packaging, our practices are shaped by a deep respect for the earth that sustains us.

Destiladora Agave Azul’s innovative waste treatment systems convert byproducts into natural fertilizers, restoring life to the soil that has given us everything. It’s a cycle of stewardship. A commitment that honors the land while protecting its future.

Point Blank: The Taste Of Jalisco

You can taste Jalisco in every pour of Point Blank Tequila. It’s in the earthy minerality of the Blanco. The warm, wood-kissed balance of the Reposado. The refined depth of the Añejo.

There are no shortcuts here — no additives, no enhancements, no distractions. Just the raw, unfiltered truth of agave, shaped by soil, sun, and soul.

What makes it premium tequila isn’t a label. It’s the land. The craftsmanship. The refusal to compromise.

That refusal to compromise isn’t just embodied by Don Jose Garcia and his sons, but that passion is equally shared by our award-winning Master Distiller, Zandra Gomez Santiago. Recognized as the 2024 Best Woman Distiller by the Women’s International Wine & Spirits Competition, Zandra brings exacting precision to each phase of production, infusing every batch with a fierce respect for heritage and a bold vision for the future.

That’s what Jalisco gives us: not just the raw materials to make tequila, but the people with the passion to make Point Blank — a tequila born of passion and purpose, not convenience.

The Soul of Point Blank

Jalisco and San Juanito Escobedo aren’t just the heart of tequila — it’s the soul of Point Blank. It’s the sweat of the jimador. The breath of the oven. The spirit of tradition that refuses to be diluted. This land doesn’t bend to trends. It doesn’t fake flavor. And it doesn’t cut corners. Neither do we.

To drink Point Blank is to taste Jalisco — the grit, the grace, and the generations of truth behind every drop.
