Blue Weber Agave: The Heart of Point Blank

Point Blank starts where all true tequila must — in the heart of Blue Weber Agave. Grown in the rich volcanic soil of Jalisco and ripened under the relentless Mexican sun, this singular succulent isn’t just a plant — it’s the DNA of our spirit.

Drawing their strength from the land and the hands that tend them, our Blue Weber agaves transform years of patience and care into the smooth, complex character that defines authentic tequila. In every bottle, you’ll taste more than the sun and soil of San Juanito de Escobedo — you’ll feel the soul of generations who have cultivated and celebrated this iconic plant.

Blue Weber Agave is in a class of its own — living with intensity, giving everything it has, and leaving behind something unforgettable. Just like Point Blank.

The Plant that Makes Point Blank

Blue Weber Agave, scientifically known as Agave tequilana Weber azul, is a spiky, blue-green desert beauty with roots that run as deep as Mexico’s tequila heritage. It’s not a fruit or a cactus, as many assume — it’s part of the asparagus family, and unlike anything else on earth.

At its core lies the heart of tequila itself — the piña. This dense, pineapple-shaped center is where the magic lives. Packed with inulin, a naturally occurring fructose-rich compound, the piña is what makes tequila possible. Through heat, fermentation, and distillation, those stored sugars are transformed into something unforgettable. In short: no piña, no tequila.

Named after French botanist Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber, who classified it in 1902, this plant grows slowly and with intention, taking anywhere from 7 to 12 years to reach full maturity. Then, in a final act of beauty, it flowers once — sending a towering stalk skyward — before it dies.

It gives everything. Just like we do.

A Sacred History

Long before it became the backbone of tequila, agave was revered by the people who lived on this land for centuries. To ancient Mesoamerican cultures, agave was life — food, fiber, medicine, and spirit. Its sharp edges and sweet heart represented both protection and nourishment. The Aztecs saw it as a sacred gift from the gods, and the goddess Mayahuel, spirit of the agave, was a symbol of fertility, sacrifice, and rebirth.

Pulque, the fermented sap of the plant, was once used in sacred rituals and blood offerings — honoring the divine connection between the land, the people, and the plant that sustained them. Agave wasn’t just used — it was worshipped. It was bled for. It was believed to be alive with purpose.

That legacy lives on. At Point Blank, we don’t just make tequila. We carry forward a sacred tradition that has been rooted in this soil long before us. Every agave we harvest is a reminder that greatness comes through patience, care — and yes, sometimes, sacrifice.

Why We Use 100 Percent Blue Weber Agave

Legally, under Mexican Law, tequila must be made from at least 51 percent Blue Weber Agave — but at Point Blank, we don’t cut corners. We don’t do minimums. We use 100 percent Blue Weber in every drop.

Why? Because anything less isn’t authentic tequila — it’s a compromise. And we don’t compromise.

Blue Weber is the only agave species recognized by Mexican law for producing true tequila. It earned that title for a reason. Its dense core is packed with naturally occurring inulin — a fructose-rich compound that yields clean, complex sugars perfect for fermentation and distillation. It delivers bold, agave-forward character without needing additives, flavoring, or tricks.

But it’s not just about chemistry — it’s about integrity. Blue Weber Agave takes years to mature. It demands patience, precision, and care. And when it’s done right, you can taste the difference. That’s why we commit to it fully. No blends. No fillers. Just honest, time-honored craft in every drop.

Harvested with Honor

Blue Weber Agave takes between 7 to 12 years to mature. In that time, it weathers the extremes of Mexico’s rugged highlands, drawing richness from volcanic soil and intense sun. At maturity, each plant offers up a core, or “piña,” that can weigh up to 200 pounds — enough to yield several liters of tequila.  And once it flowers, it dies — making each harvest an act of timing, craft, and respect.

All of our Blue Weber Agave comes from family-owned farms in San Juanito de Escobedo. Each plant is harvested by expert jimadores — skilled farmers who pass down their craft like an heirloom.

They know just when to cut, how to trim, and how to respect the land. Once harvested, the piñas are slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens to draw out their deep, earthy sweetness.

After cooking, the agave is crushed, fermented, distilled, and — in the case of our Reposado and Añejo — aged in charred oak barrels. The result? Three bold expressions of truth:

  • Blanco: Pure, unaged, and agave-forward with a silky finish.
  • Reposado: Rested for 9 months, balanced with oak and spice.
  • Añejo: Aged 18 months for complexity, depth, and celebration.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Blue Weber Agave gives everything to the tequila we craft — so at Point Blank, we make sure to give back. Sustainability isn’t a buzzword for us. It’s a baseline. From field to bottle, every step of our process is designed with the earth in mind.

We start with organic, hand-tended farming practices rooted in tradition and respect for the land. Our agave comes from family-owned farms — no chemicals, no shortcuts, just time, care, and natural cycles. When the piñas are harvested, nothing goes to waste. Agave fibers are composted and returned to the soil, closing the loop and feeding the future.

Our distillation process uses natural fermentation, and our water treatment systems ensure clean, minimal-impact production. Even our bottles are made from recycled materials — because packaging should be as responsible as the product inside.

This plant endures years of sun, soil, and time to produce something extraordinary. We owe it nothing less than full respect — through every bottle, every practice, every decision we make.

That’s the Point Blank standard: no additives, no shortcuts, and no excuses — not just in the tequila, but in how we treat the world that makes it possible.

Blue Weber Agave: Rooted in Purpose

It takes years of sun, soil, and stillness — but when it’s ready, Blue Weber Agave gives everything it has. From sacred roots to final bloom, it stands for patience, purpose, and pride.

It reminds us that excellence takes time — and that nothing truly worthwhile comes easy.
