Meet Nacho: Point Blank’s Donkey

He thinks he’s famous — and honestly, he kind of is.

Point Blank’s iconic donkey isn’t just some marketing gimmick we slapped on labels, merch, and stickers. He’s real. His name is Nacho, and he lives at our distillery in San Juanito de Escobedo, where he roams the grounds like he built the place.

“People are sometimes surprised to hear that the donkey on our bottle isn’t a made-up mascot,” said Andrew Summersett, co-founder of Point Blank Tequila. “He’s a living, breathing, working donkey who, to be honest, is pretty full of himself. We love him.”

A couple of years ago, Summersett was visiting Point Blank’s distillery — Destiladora Agave Azul — when he saw a little brown donkey standing in some trees, staring him down like he was the boss.

“He had this attitude — cool, cocky, totally unbothered,” Summersett said. “I knew right then he wasn’t just any donkey. He was the spirit of Point Blank.”

Summersett said he asked Don Jose Garcia, the owner of the distillery and agave plantations, if the donkey could officially be part of the Point Blank family.

“Don Jose laughed and said, ‘Sure, he can be sweet but he’s also stubborn as hell. Just don’t expect him to mind you or follow any rules,’” Summersett said. “That, actually, made him an even better fit because, well, neither do we.’”

From day one, Nacho leaned into his new role with full attitude — half-tolerating photo shoots but fully stealing the spotlight.

It was like he knew he was the spirit of something bigger.

Ranch Royalty: El Rey of Destiladora Agave Azul

Since joining the Point Blank team, Nacho has become something of a star. He’s got fans, followers, and his face stamped on bottles, pins and tees.

Everyone at the distillery now calls him “El Rey” —  which means “the King” in Spanish —  a nickname that stuck thanks in part to Point Blank publicity.

It’s a fitting title. Nacho may be small, but he’s mighty. He lives the good life on a ranch just behind the distillery, where he roams freely and does, well, whatever he wants.

“It’s his world,” Summersett said with a laugh. “We just make tequila in it.”

During the day, you’ll find Nacho grazing the land, basking in the sun, and surveying his kingdom like the four-hooved ruler he is.

He’s one of several horses and donkeys on the ranch, including two lady companions — one of whom, Martina, he is particularly fond of.  He mostly gets along with the rest of the animals, but make no mistake, Nacho calls the shots.

“He’s a bit of a know-it-all,” Summersett said. “He definitely acts like he’s king of the ranch.”

Even with all that swagger, Nacho has a kind and gentle spirit. He loves attention and a good scratch behind his ears. When Summersett shows up, he brays and brays, announcing the arrival of one of his favorite people.

“I’m not saying he likes me more than anyone else,” Summersett said. “But I’m also not saying he doesn’t. After all, I did put him on a shirt.”

A True Tequila Donkey

Even though he’s something of a celeb, from time to time, Nacho still has to earn his keep. Around the distillery, he still helps out with traditional tasks and, during local parades in town, he pulls a wagon carrying a barrel full of tequila with a hose attached from which locals happily drink.

“Make no mistake, he is a true tequila donkey,” Summersett said.

And when the Point Blank team shows up? Nacho pulls out all the stops — posing for photos, starring in videos, and bringing his spicy personality to the spotlight. After all, he has an image to uphold.

Just don’t turn your back on him too long — he may nip you when you’re not looking.

Why We Love Him

Nacho isn’t just a mascot. He’s the embodiment of everything we stand for — bold, authentic, unapologetic. He’s the untamed spirit behind Point Blank. Want to carry him with you? Check out our merch.
