Destiladora Agave Azul, the production home of Point Blank Tequila, has been awarded the prestigious “Made In Mexico” certification, a federal mark of authenticity and quality.
On August 27, 2025, Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, in collaboration with the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), selected just 16 tequila companies to receive this inaugural distinction, placing Destiladora Agave Azul among an elite group of producers.
The “Made in Mexico” certification confirms the distillery’s role as one of Mexico’s most respected tequila producers and underscores its dedication to authenticity, sustainability, and craftsmanship.
“We’ve always known that Point Blank Tequila is produced by the finest distillery in Mexico — and now the world knows it too,” said Andrew Summersett, co-founder of Point Blank Tequila. “This recognition belongs to the entire team at Destiladora Agave Azul, from the jimadores in the fields to our award-winning Master Distiller. Their commitment to doing things the hard way, the honest way, is what makes them extraordinary — and you can taste that dedication in every bottle of Point Blank.”

The “Made in Mexico” certification is one of the country’s highest distinctions, awarded only to producers that meet Mexico’s most rigorous standards of quality, origin, and sustainability.
In the tequila industry, the program is overseen by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, ensuring full transparency and credibility.
To qualify, distilleries must demonstrate:
- Verified compliance with official Mexican regulations
- Full supply chain traceability, from agave field to bottle
- Production exclusively with 100% Mexican-grown agave
- Demonstrated sustainable and responsible practices
- Adherence to the Denomination of Origin for Tequila (DOT)
By earning this certification, Destiladora Agave Azul has proven itself as more than a producer of tequila — it has been recognized as a guardian of Mexico’s most iconic spirit. It confirms that every drop of tequila crafted at the distillery is traceable and responsibly made.

What It Means for Point Blank Tequila
For Point Blank, the certification is a powerful validation, confirming that every bottle is made authentically, sustainably, and transparently. It signals to the world that Point Blank Tequila is not only produced with integrity but also stands among the very best tequilas Mexico has to offer.
“The ‘Made in Mexico’ certification gives Point Blank a powerful voice in an increasingly competitive spirits market,” Summersett said. “It immediately signals to discerning tequila connoisseurs that Point Blank Tequila is entirely authentic and meets the highest standards.”
The recognition also carries responsibility.
For Point Blank, it’s a reminder to remain true to our vision: to craft tequila with uncompromising quality because when you drink Point Blank, you’re not just enjoying tequila, you’re experiencing the spirit and soul of Mexico.

A Strategy with Global Impact
The “Made in Mexico” program is part of a broader initiative to boost Mexico’s economy by promoting exports, reducing trade deficits – particularly with Asia – and strengthening national value chains.
Alberto Uribe, Director General of National Content at the Ministry of Economy, told the Mexico Business News that the program enhances the global perception of Mexican products and increases confidence in their value.
In the tequila industry, this translates to positioning certified producers — such as Destiladora Agave Azul — as ambassadors of Mexico’s cultural heritage, elevating trust among consumers internationally and reinforcing Mexico’s image as a source of premium spirits.
It’s important to note that all authentic tequilas have long carried the phrase “Hecho en México” (“Made in Mexico”) as a legal guarantee of Mexican origin. What sets the new “Made in Mexico” certification apart is its role as a federally recognized seal awarded only to select producers meeting the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and traceability. This additional mark of distinction signals to international buyers and connoisseurs that certified tequilas — like Point Blank — represent not just Mexican heritage, but verified excellence.
For Point Blank, the recognition is best understood by looking at where and how our tequila is made.

Authenticity, Certified
Point Blank Tequila is born in San Juanito de Escobedo, Jalisco — a small town in the heart of Mexico’s tequila region, where volcanic soil, abundant sunlight, and seasonal rains create the perfect conditions for cultivating Blue Weber agave.
Our agave is grown on family-managed farms, where it is carefully tended for years until it reaches peak maturity. When the time comes, skilled jimadores harvest each plant by hand, using techniques passed down for generations.
From there, the piñas are slow-cooked in traditional ovens, fermented and distilled under the guidance of Master Distiller Zandra Gomez Santiago, and bottled 100% additive-free — with no colors and no artificial ingredients. Every step honors tradition while protecting the land, with pina waste composted back into the fields and bottles and labels made from recycled materials.
This approach reflects the vision of Don Jose Garcia, who founded the distillery decades ago to continue a family legacy. What he built is more than a distillery. It is a vertically integrated, self-sustaining ecosystem that brings together agave farming, tequila production, and a full composting facility — three companies under one umbrella. This model ensures complete control from soil to bottle, guaranteeing unmatched quality and sustainability at every stage.
To be sure, these practices are why Destiladora Agave Azul was chosen to receive the inaugural “Made in Mexico” certification. It reflects not only modern excellence, but also a rare commitment to authenticity, sustainability, and tradition that few producers can match.
And now, that authenticity is officially certified.
“Point Blank is proud to be crafted at a distillery that honors the land, the people, and the process,” Summersett said. “This certification sets the benchmark for what true tequila should be — and the recognition is well deserved.”
